It finally happened.

I knew this day would come.

The probability was high. Inevitable, some people would say.

Our morning was pretty normal...the girls were building a "fort" under the kitchen table using blankets. They were cute, stashing all kinds of stuff and giggling like crazy. I didn't mind the mess they were making because it kept them busy while I did some things around the house. I was in the laundry room when Samantha comes in. It went something like this...

Samantha: Mommy, I think you need to come into the bathroom.
Me: Why? (keeps folding laundry)
Samantha: Um, I think Madison is getting into trouble.
Me: What's she doing?

("getting into trouble" is a pretty standard thing with Madison and Samantha's definition sometimes has a trace of sibling rivalry in it, so I wasn't panicked. Yet.)

Samantha: Well...(pauses like she's the one in trouble)...there's hair all over the floor.
Me: WHAT?!?!?!?!?!?!

(this is where I panic!)

Me: Madison Rachel!!!!!!!!!! (as I run to the bathroom)
Madison: What? (all innocent)
Me: What have you done?!?! Did you CUT your hair?!?!?
Madison: Yes.

(as my heart is beating out of my chest, I grab her head and start looking for the damage)

Me: Show me where.
Madison: Here. (pointing to her pony tail)

I'll spare you the rest of the dialog, it's mostly me drilling the point home to Madison that scissors are for cutting paper only and then sending her to time-out. Thank goodness she only took off two inches from the bottom of a small section of hair. My panic subsided considerably after I discovered that. It could have been worse, much worse. I have two daughters, one of whom is a known mischief maker...how I was naive enough to think it wouldn't happen to me? *sigh*
