And the hits just keep on comin'...

Well, the "ugh" day got even worse this evening. Below is a rundown of the rest of my night (consider this your "gross" warning for those who are squeamish).

Samantha refused to try to go potty after her nap. I kept encouraging her to try, she kept refusing. I knew this would end in disaster and sure enough it did. As she's eating dinner, and I'm preoccupied cutting Madison's dinner, Samantha has an accident. A big one, she'd pooped in her panties at the kitchen table. Great, just great. I rush her into the bathroom, remove the panties and create a HUGE mess on the bathroom floor. She freaks out, panics and refuses to sit on the toilet or allow me to clean her up. Fabulous. I take her to my shower, thinking I can hose her down. About half way thru, I notice that the shower isn't draining and Samantha is standing in water...poopy water. Using a wipee I get her cleaned up and head back to her bathroom to tackle the task of cleaning up the floor. I walk out of the bathroom for a nano second to grab an old towel and Madison seizes the opportunity to tromp thru the mess. So now I have a dirty kid and a floor that is messier than before, plus it's all over the rugs now.

As if all this isn't bad enough, in the midst of our evening crisis the smoke alarm decides to start beeping because the battery is low. That noise alone is enough to drive someone batty! I swear to you that I'm not making any of this up!! I try calling Jeff because he should be close to heading home, thinking he can pick up a new battery for the smoke alarm and some Drano for the shower. Can't get ahold of him, try a couple more times but all I get is voicemail. This is the point where I lose it, sit down on the floor and begin to cry. It takes me a few minutes of sitting there before I pull myself together and start prepping to head to the store to get the battery and Drano myself. Jeff calls (an hour after his shift is supposed to end) just as I'm pulling jackets on the girls. He got hung up on a call but was on his way home...thank God! Trying not to cry again I ask him to stop at the store on his way home. I undress the girls and throw them in the bathtub. Jeff arrives, deals with the smoke alarm, making the beeping even more annoying (didn't think that was possible) before finally getting that dam* thing to shut up.

As of right now, the girls and Jeff are in bed and all is quiet. Let's pray that it stays that way, otherwise I'll need to be committed.
